Professor Mark Brown speaks to students and faculty

The Visiting Scholars Lecture Series welcomed Prof. Mark Brown from the University of Sheffield School of Law to present on the topic: “The Criminal Tribes of India: Lessons for Lawyers in the Global South”. Professor Brown is a seasoned academic in the field of criminology and criminal law and presented on his research drawing upon the case of “criminal tribes” in India, and the retention of the criminal tribe policy when India gained independence. He reflected upon the power of imported ‘knowledge’ and how this “importation” has the ability to dictate or persuade the world-views of people in the global South.
