Lyonpo Tshering Wangchuck, the Chief Justice of Bhutan and Chairperson of the Governing Council of JSW Law, graced the closing session of the three-day international research conference “Public Law, Legal Orders and Governance: Regulating Globalisation in Asia.”
“The need to regulate and mitigate adverse effects of economic globalization has never been more critical than in this day and age, when mankind is slowly but surely drifting towards materialistic, uncontrolled, and unsustainable economic development,” His Excellency observed. “We must value and promote social justice, while inculcating sustainable and responsible use of our limited resources. Focus on the environmental rule of law is critical to achieving sustainable development.”
His Excellency congratulated JSW School of Law and the University of Victoria on the conference, which he called “an excellent opportunity to understand the past, take stock of the present, and divine the future.”
The conference was co-hosted by JSW School of Law (Bhutan) and the University of Victoria (Canada) at the Terma Linca Resort from 17 July 2019.
